Solidarity Day in Chile
August 18, 2025-August 18, 2025 -
Chile, Chile
Solidarity Day in Chile began in 1978 during a challenging period marked by social and economic difficulties.
Cardinal Raúl Silva Henríquez, a respected figure in Chile, initiated the day. He was deeply concerned about the growing poverty and inequality in the country.
Moved by the hardships he witnessed, Cardinal Henríquez envisioned a day when Chileans could come together to help those in need. He believed that collective action could make a real difference, especially in times of crisis.
The first Solidarity Day focused on gathering essential items like food, clothing, and other necessities for struggling families. It quickly grew into a nationwide event, inspiring people from all walks of life to participate.
Over time, the day became a powerful symbol of compassion and unity in Chile. It not only provided much-needed support to the needy but also strengthened the bonds within communities.
