Liver Foundation of Kerala (LIFOK), previously known as The Liver Transplanters’ Association, was established in 2014 with the primary objective of providing support to individuals who have undergone liver transplant surgery. Understanding the substantial financial burden associated with these surgeries, particularly for those hailing from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, LIFOK strives to alleviate their post-transplantation challenges.
Founded by the late Sri K.S. Babu, who served as the inaugural President, the organization initially took root in Kothamangalam. Over time, LIFOK has grown to encompass more than 2300 members, including donors. Through concerted efforts, the organization succeeded in bringing the struggles of liver transplant recipients to the attention of both the government and the broader community. While certain demands have been met, several unaddressed needs remain.
Following the untimely passing of President Sri K.S. Babu, the organization experienced a temporary hiatus in its activities. However, in 2018, Sri. Chandrasekhara Pillai assumed leadership, prompting the rechristening of the organization as Liver Foundation of Kerala (LIFOK). It was duly registered under the Travancore-Cochin Charitable Societies Act in Kottayam. Unfortunately, Sri. Chandrasekhara Pillai also passed away shortly thereafter. Nevertheless, a new committee was promptly established during an all-Kerala Family meet convened at the White City Hotel, North Paravur in 2019.
