Herbert Hoover Day
August 10, 2025-August 10, 2025 -
USA, USA
Herbert Hoover Day began in Iowa to honor the only U.S. president born in that state. Lawmakers passed a bill naming the Sunday nearest his birthday as a day to recognize his public service.
The first official observance took place after this state law went into effect. Each year since then, Iowa’s governor issues a proclamation to encourage people to take part. These statements often suggest flying the flag and remembering Hoover’s role in both national and global events.
Community groups, schools, and local leaders have joined in over time. They organize programs that talk about Hoover’s work before and after his presidency. Many focus on his efforts to help others during major world crises.
His leadership in food relief during World War I is often a key part of these talks. Some towns hold small gatherings or open museum exhibits to mark the day.
The goal of Herbert Hoover Day is simple. It reminds people of one man’s lasting impact through service and care. Though he held high office, much of his work happened outside politics.
