Gay Uncles Day
August 10, 2025-August 10, 2025 -
USA, USA
Gay Uncles Day began in 2016 when a man named C.J. Hatter suggested it on Facebook. He thought it would be great to set aside one Sunday each August to celebrate gay uncles and the role they play in their families.
Soon after, Australian athlete Simon Dunn helped spread the word by posting a joyful photo with his nephews. His message encouraged others to recognize and appreciate the love and support that queer relatives offer.
That post sparked interest across social media, and within weeks, more people joined in. Photos, memories, and kind messages began to fill timelines, and the idea quickly turned into a yearly tradition.
Since then, the day has grown beyond its original circle. It’s now a moment for many families to show love for their LGBTQ relatives, especially gay uncles, but also others who share similar roles.
