The Badminton World Championships is one of the most prestigious competitions in the sport, organized by the Badminton World Federation (BWF). It is held annually (except in Olympic years) and brings together the best players from around the world, competing for the world champion title in various categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
The format of the Badminton World Championships is a knockout tournament, where players face off in matches played in best-of-three sets, with each set going to 21 points. Athletes must win at least two sets to win the match and advance to the next round.
The first Badminton World Championships took place in 1977 in Malmö, Sweden. Since then, it has been hosted in various countries around the world, becoming a must-see event for badminton fans. Originally held every two years, it became an annual event in 2006 (excluding Olympic years), ensuring a consistently high level of competition.
Over the years, legendary players such as LIN Dan, CHEN Long, Carolina MARIN, and many others have left their mark on the history of the Badminton World Championships with their spectacular performances. These champions have become role models and sources of inspiration for future generations.
