History of the Bristol Balloon Fiesta
The Bristol Balloon Fiesta began in 1979. It was the brainchild of ballooning enthusiast Don Cameron, who wanted to create a gathering of balloon lovers.
Cameron, the founder of Cameron Balloons, one of the world’s leading hot-air balloon manufacturers, envisioned a grand event. He and a small group of friends made it happen.
The first fiesta saw 27 balloons take to the skies. It was held at Ashton Court, a beautiful estate on the outskirts of Bristol. The event quickly gained popularity, attracting more balloons and spectators each year. The fiesta grew from a small gathering into Europe’s largest annual hot air balloon event.
What started as a passion project has turned into a beloved tradition. Today, hundreds of balloons participated, drawing visitors from around the world.
