Arattupuzha Pooram Arattupuzha Sree Sastha Temple Thrissur, Thrissur
Held annually at the Sree Sastha Temple in Arattupuzha, Thrissur
district. Spanning seven days each year, typically from March to April,
this grand festival is a spectacle of devotion, culture, and community
spirit. Known as the "Mother of all Poorams," Arattupuzha Pooram stands
out for its unique tradition of bringing together deities from various
temples, creating a divine conclave that attracts thousands of
visitors.
It is often referred to as Peruvanam Arattupuzha
Pooram, highlighting its connection with the Cherpu, Peruvanam, and
Tharakkal Poorams, which all occur just before the Arattupuzha Pooram.
The famous divine assembly of the Arattupuzha Pooram takes place early
in the morning, featuring more than 80 elephants, making it the festival
that parades the most elephants. The arrival of the Triprayar Thevar
and the ritual of Kuttiezhunnallippu are of great significance, adding
to the grandeur of the event.
The Sree Sastha Temple, believed to
be over 3000 years old, becomes the focal point of this vibrant
celebration. Dedicated to Lord Ayyappa, the temple's historical and
spiritual significance draws devotees and tourists alike. The festival
is renowned for its majestic elephant pageantry, where numerous
elaborately adorned tuskers parade through the temple grounds, creating
an awe-inspiring visual. These elephants, decked in glittering
ornaments, move to the rhythmic beats of traditional percussion
instruments, including chenda and kuzhal, enhancing the festive
atmosphere.
